$1 for a site in inner-city Sydney – just design, build and operate an aged care home

1 min read

The City of Sydney is looking for a Not For Profit aged care provider to design, build and operate a residential aged care home for the local community on its 1,925sqm site at 49 Cope Street, Redfern, which is currently being used as a 55-place car park.

"It’s an underdeveloped space in this busy and rapidly changing inner city neighbourhood," a statement from the City of Sydney said.

The land will be sold to the successful applicant for $1 with a covenant on the title to ensure the site is used for affordable residential aged care in perpetuity.

The new aged care home must accommodate a minimum of 50 affordable places for the local community and must be delivered by or in partnership with local Aboriginal community-controlled organisations or Aboriginal providers. Local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents and staff must be involved in the operations.

The new owner of the home will also be required to build a 55-place underground car park and return it to the City of Sydney, which will continue to run it as a paid public car park.

More information, including how to submit an expression of interest, is available here. Applications close at 11am Thursday 19 December. Any decision will be reported back to the Council early next year.
