$30M seniors housing development The Alexander Luxury Living planned to transform mansion in Mosman, Sydney’s 9th wealthiest suburb

1 min read

Twilight Aged Care, which owns and operates six aged care facilities in Sydney, is expanding into retirement villages.

It has lodged plans by Calderflower Architecture to build 23 independent living units on a 7648 sqm site, within 500m of the town centre.

The site, which was previously a private hospital, was called Ellamatta. It was a Victorian mansion, built around 1870 for Edward Mawney Sayers, Mosman’s first Member of Parliament.

If the proposal is approved, Ellamatta would be refurbished with a ground-floor common area, and two seniors' living spaces on the upper floors. There would be a new five-storey wing which would have 16 seniors' living homes.

Plans include expanding on adjacent Mosman Eye Centre land; the site would be home to a total of 23 self-contained seniors living units.

“Mosman has a significant elderly population and is predicted to age at a greater rate than Sydney or NSW,” the plans state.
