Phil Usher’s Odyssey Lifestyle Care Communities buys Stockland site on QLD’s Hope Island for two tower development

1 min read

EXCLUSIVE: The pioneer Private Aged Care operator continues its low-key expansion within the tightly held south-east corner of Queensland

Phil, with the financial might of the super fund Australian Retirement Trust (created from the merger of Sunsuper and QSuper) has secured a 4,639sqm waterfront site, with a 180m north-facing frontage to Hope Island Canal on Hope Island on Queensland's Gold Coast from the diversified property developer. Stockland had paid $13.5 million to the administrators of Fish Developments for the site in 2017.

Stockland had sought approval from Gold Coast City Council in October last year for a dual-tower residential development rising 10-storeys for 166 apartments.

Phil, one of the pioneers of private aged care under retirement living legislation, said Odyssey Lifestyle Care Communities would be lodging its own development application for an innovative resort over two towers.

"The Hope Island development, like Chevron, will be built to reflect the current living needs of seniors, which is based on feedback we've received from Robina and the wider community," he said.

Multiplex has already poured the third slab of the Odyssey Chevron Island community (render pictured right), which is expected for completion in 2025.

The Odyssey model is built around a resort-style environment where residents can receive high-level care in their apartments under the Retirement Villages Act without needing to move to an aged care home. Its first care resort is Odyssey Robina on the Gold Coast.
