Local Not For Profit to reopen NSW Mid North Coast aged care home, two years after closure

Locals in the small town of Buladelah, about 250km north of Sydney, have been thrilled by news that local Not For Profit aged care provider Stroud Community Lodge will buy and reopen Cedar Wharf Lodge Nursing Home, which Anglican Care closed two years ago.

In August, we reported that Anglican Care was selling the vacant aged care home.

Stroud Community Lodge currently operates one 30-bed aged care home in Stroud, about 225km north of Sydney, as well as operating Independent Living Units and delivering home care services.

"We are thrilled at this opportunity to extend quality care to the ageing members of our rural communities," said a social media post by Stroud Community Lodge.

"We will keep everyone updated in its progress as we work to reopen the Cedar Wharf Lodge."

Dr David Gillespie, MP Member for Lyne said, "Locals were left devastated when Anglican Care shut down the facility two years ago.

"It saw the elderly residents moved to other facilities and away from the community they know and love.

"Today’s news not only means reopening the nursing home in Buladelah, but potentially reshaping the rooms to provide additional individual accommodation for more residents."

Cedar Wharf Lodge opened in 1991 as Great Lakes Nursing Home, a community-owned business, with 57 beds. Newcastle-based Anglican Care took it over in 2017. The building was last modified in 2005.
