Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission to resume unannounced visits to aged care services – as Department of Health cuts COVID-19 updates to twice a week

1 min read

The Quality and Safety Commissioner, Janet Anderson PSM, has declared that its assessor have recommenced site visits as COVID-19 restrictions continue to ease.

While the ACQSC has still conducted risk-based site visits throughout the pandemic, in mid-March, the Quality Commission introduced a short period of notice (less than 48 hours) for providers to minimise the risk to residents, staff and assessors.

Now subject to pre-screening and a current flu vaccination, assessors will be back on deck with the Commissioner stating that they will shortly provide further advice on reaccreditation audits.

The news comes as the Department of Health advised providers it would reduce its daily coronavirus updates to twice a week while continuing to provide updates and resources.
