The Aged Care Taskforce has held its first monthly meeting, which was Chaired by Minister for Aged Care Anika Wells and issued a Communique.
The Taskforce was announced in the 2023-24 Federal Budget to review aged care funding arrangements, with a view to developing options for a “fair and equitable” funding system.
Central to the Taskforce will be assessing the need for increased consumer contributions to the costs of aged care, for those who can afford it – Plan B.
The Communique said the Taskforce will consider, “The full range of mechanisms to develop a more equitable, sustainable and viable aged care sector, including existing financial products that are currently underutilized in aged care.”
The Minister said, “How aged care is funded is critical to make sure older people have access to equitable, innovative and high-quality care.
“I’m looking forward to working with this group of advocates, leaders and experts.”
