Commissioner removes Kristian White from NSW Police Force after guilty verdict

1 min read

On Tuesday, NSW Police Force Commissioner Karen Webb announced Senior Constable Kristian White had been removed from the public service.

The previous week, following an eight-day trial in the NSW Supreme Court and four days of deliberation, a jury unanimously found White guilty of manslaughter of 95-year-old Clare Nowland, after he Tasered her in her Cooma aged care home, 114km south of Canberra.

In a statement, Webb said, "Today I have determined that I do not have confidence in the officer's suitability to continue as a police officer, in line with the procedure mandated under the Police Act 1990 section 181D.

"I have spoken with the family of the 95-year-old victim involved in this matter and advised them of my decision."

Nowland's family said the decision is "too little, too late".

"The Commissioner has had full access to all materials on which the jury last week found Mr White guilty of the unlawful killing of Clare for over 12 months and chose to take no action."

White remains on bail ahead of sentencing, which is scheduled for 7 February 2025.
