Largest Govt capital assistance grant goes to Harbison aged care redevelopment in Labor electorate

The Not For Profit aged care provider, based in NSW's Southern Highlands, will be able to start construction of a 72-bed residential aged care redevelopment in Burradoo after being awarded $27.5 million from the Federal Department of Health and Aged Care.

The grant was the largest awarded under the Aged Care Capital Assistance Program announced last December.

Stage 1 of the masterplan for Burradoo, about 127km south of Sydney, which consisted of a new residential dementia care service, opened in 2020, winning the Excellence in Aged Care award from the Urban Development Institute of Australia NSW the following year.

The Assistant Treasurer and Finance Minister Stephen Jones, Federal Member for Whitlam, who is retiring at the Federal Election, said the project will be "transformative" for Harbison and the local community where there is high demand for aged care and a shortage of aged care services.

The next Aged Care Capital Assistance Program is expected to be announced in the first half of 2025 and is intended to fund infrastructure projects that will maintain or improve access to quality residential aged care services in:

  • regional, rural and remote locations (MM 2–7), and
  • metropolitan locations (MM 1) where these services will provide specialised or targeted care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
