The Older Persons’ Advocacy Network (OPAN) and Council on the Ageing (COTA) received 4,000 registrations to attend community consultation forums about the new Aged Care Act and the Aged Care Taskforce’s funding principles in the last six weeks.
COTA and OPAN held 12 face-to-face forums across the country.
More than 3,000 people registered for two online events about the new rights-based Aged Care Act and the Aged Care Taskforce’s funding principles.
One message from attendees came through clearly: the need for monitoring and enforcement mechanisms in the new Act.
‘[These rights are] not worth the paper they are written on unless they are applied in practice,’ one attendee said.
In a joint statement, OPAN and COTA said they will share more about the feedback they received in the coming weeks.
COTA and OPAN said there will be other opportunities to have your say on the reforms in the months ahead, including after the Exposure Draft of the Act is released in December.
According to the Federal Government’s Tenders website, COTA was paid nearly $400,000 to conduct the community consultations.
