Innovative dementia care and disability provider Community Home Australia (CHA), which operates the Kambera dementia care home for under 65s in Canberra, has finalised the $1.1 million purchase of Aashaya Jasri, a 3.5-star Bali resort in Indonesia that has nine villas set around an inground swimming pool and caters for up to 20 guests.
The CHA International Resort, a joint venture between PT CHA International Resorts and CHA, will provide inclusive and accessible travel options for people who require support, whether due to dementia, disability or just older age.
"Our aim is to provide a level of security and support to those who would otherwise avoid travel," wrote Managing Director CHA Rodney Jilek in a LinkedIn post.
"We believe that the need for support should not limit a person's experiences."
The resort will be refurbished, including improvements to accessibility, such as a wheelchair accessible hydrotherapy pool.
"We will be welcoming our first guests from Canberra, followed by all other Australian capital cities (and around the world) later this year," Rodney wrote.
"As a philanthropic supported charitable organisation, CHA will continue to offer support to everyone in the disability community and will be subsidising packages where possible to ensure everyone is able to experience the joy of travel and limit out of pocket expenses.
"Five day all inclusive packages including return flights, all meals and drinks, transport, tours and activities start from $1,960 per person. Longer packages will also be available," Rodney wrote.
Services offered include:
- One-on-one escorts to and from Bali by NDIS screened, dementia trained or registered nurse (RN) staff
- Support up to and including one-on-one care personal and clinical care, 24 hours a day
- Medical equipment such as wheelchairs, shower chairs, commodes and mechanical lifters will be available on site
- RNs will be available to support people with enteral feeds, oxygen therapy, wound care, and pain management needs
- Tours around the region, cooking classes, yoga sessions, whitewater rafting, swimming in the ocean and the resort pool, enjoying local cuisine in the resort's own restaurant.
Some costs may be covered by NDIS packages, or can be purchased privately. Support fees will be below Australian Government-set NDIS limits and will be equal to the fees CHA charges for support services costs delivered in Canberra, Rodney wrote.
