Australian Unity’s The Grace named Best Retirement Living Development

The Grace Albert Park Lake in South Melbourne has been named Best Retirement Living Development at this year’s National Retirement Living Awards.

“As an architect, I have long championed the need to reinvent the built environments in which ageing is experienced, engaging purposeful use of design nuances that influence human behaviour and providing agency and amenity to older people so that they can age well,” said Lorraine Calder, General Manager Places at Australian Unity (pictured with the award).

The Grace, a $120 million project, features 79 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments over 18 levels and was designed by Melbourne architect Fender Katsalidis.

It is the first part of Australian Unity’s integrated retirement village model, Better Together. The Alba is being built next to The Grace.

“We’re looking forward to the launch of this highly anticipated development in 2023 which will include assisted living apartments, aged care suites and a stunning shared rooftop,” Beverly Smith, Executive General Manager Residential Communities said.

The award, sponsored by FMSA Architecture, recognises the best new or refurbished retirement living development.
