It had a tricky birth but the accolades for the affordable housing project by the Not for Profit and Nightingale Housing keep on coming.
It was awarded Best Affordable Development in the Urban Taskforce Australia Awards on Saturday, which follows the 2024 NSW Architecture Awards' Premier's Award, and the ULI Asia Pacific Award for Excellence.
“This build to rent project is a comfortable six stories designed by SJB architects. The development is aimed at the affordable end of the market with rents reduced to 80% of the market rate of the area. Homes are allocated through a ballot system. The architecture includes brick arches in its podium to give an interesting presentation to the street.” Urban Taskforce Chief Executive Officer Chris Johnson, the former NSW Government Architect and former Executive Director at the NSW Department of Planning, said.
54 people successfully applied to secure a small home (ranging from 22msq to 35msq at 20% below-market rent in Nightingale Marrickville.
The Falls Estate, 20km northeast of Sydney’s CBD, which is the brainchild of Henroth Investments, led by John and Stanley Roth (and named after their late Rich List father Henry Roth), was awarded Best Innovation Development.
“This development gives a new approach to retirement living in the Northern Beaches by integrating the building with its natural bushland site. The site includes an historic waterfall and dam that the 40 units in nine buildings share access to. The bushland site required woodland management particularly as it is in a bushfire zone. 40% of units were leased off the plan,” said Chris in announcing the award.
The Falls Estate was built by Richard Crookes Construction and designed by Marchese Partners I Life3A.
