Minister for Aged Care Anika Wells has told The Dementia Centre's International Dementia Conference 2024 this morning that she is "hopeful" that bipartisan support for reforms recommended by the Aged Care Taskforce is "very close".
She acknowledged the Government's response to the Taskforce is the "number one issue in the sector" and said, "the Albanese government is absolutely committed to bringing aged care back from the brink."
Bipartisan support on the reforms is needed because "you... cannot have the rules change when the Government does," the Minister added.
The Minister also stated that she believed that the Shadow Minister for Aged Care Anne Ruston, who will be speaking at the Conference tomorrow morning, also "earnestly wants to see aged care improved and reformed in this country as well."
"We've come a long way and we're on the precipice of going even further."
Minister Wells also revealed that the National Dementia Action Plan will be released later this year.
The IDC is a biannual event organised by The Dementia Centre, which was established by Not For Profit provider HammondCare.
