The provider’s Bupa Traralgon home in regional VIC (pictured – 167 kilometres east of Melbourne CBD) has been sanctioned for a second time, just three months after it was found to meet government accreditation standards.
The facility had subsidies for new clients withheld less than a year ago, after the ACQSC found care standards posed an "immediate and severe risk to care recipients' health, safety and wellbeing" in July 2018.
According to the My Aged Care website, the fresh sanction was imposed because Bupa breached sections of all four government accreditation standards – including management systems, health and personal care, care recipient lifestyle and physical environment and safety systems.
"The department is concerned about the extremely high level of non-compliance across all standards identified by the Quality Agency at previous visits to the services," it said.
The new sanctions prevent Bupa Traralgon from receiving federal government subsidies for new clients until January 19, 2020 and require Bupa to appoint an adviser and an administrator to help it meet clinical and management responsibilities.
After last year’s sanctions, the group appointed an independent consumer expert, Beth Wilson (a former VIC health services commissioner), to hear complaints from families and clients and come back with recommendations.
