Arcare acquires two Melbourne sites to build new aged care homes

Arcare has cemented its position as one of Australia's most prolific aged care developers with the acquisition of two significant Melbourne sites - Epworth Rehabilitation Hospital in Brighton, 11km south west of the Melbourne CBD, along with three adjoining residential blocks, and 4,000 sqms in Essendon, 8km north of the city centre.

The aged care operator, which is owned by the Knowles Group and has been building aged care homes for 40 years, has confirmed plans to build new aged care homes on both sites.

Arcare also purchased Mercy Health’s former Maryville Hostel, in Boronia, 30km east of the Melbourne CBD, in June 2024.

Arcare has three developments due for completion in the first half of 2025, including its first in the ACT:

  • Arcare Ringwood, VIC, 26km east of the Melbourne CBD: a 114-bed facility set to be finished in April 2025;

  • Arcare Lysterfield, VIC, 43km southeast of Melbourne: an 84-bed home due for completion in May 2025; and

  • Arcare Aranda, ACT, 14km northwest of the Canberra CBD: a 120-bed facility expected to be ready in June 2025.

The operator opened 96-bed Arcare Gisborne aged care facility in Victoria's Macedon Ranges, 54km northwest of Melbourne, in October 2024, bringing its total number of homes to 53.
