These sector CEOs provide a masterclass in professional development and generosity

1 min read

It was fascinating last week to learn the extent leaders in our sector have invested in their own education.

We were in Adelaide and then Perth at the DCM Institute VILLAGE SUMMITS. In each city two leaders gave their time to share their definition of high performance in village managers and HO staff.

70+ Village Managers attended in each state; nationally we are sold out at over 600 attendees.

In Perth we asked M-L MacDonald (pictured top left), Group CEO of Masonic Care WA and associated businesses, what her education path had been. She has a Bachelor degree in Applied Science and Education, an MBA in Business, an MBA in Business Law and a large number of additional diplomas. She is now making herself an expert in AI.

Roulé Jones (pictured top right), CEO of Bethanie – a large Not For Profit village and care operator – has a degree in Psychology and another in Commerce/Accounting, plus numerous diplomas.

Mel Ottaway (pictured bottom left), Executive Manager Community Services and Retirement Living at SA’s Resthaven (who just purchased 11 villages from Aveo), has a Masters in Nursing plus two MBAs, including from the prestigious Aarhus University in Denmark.

Simon Schrapel AM, CEO of Uniting Communities in SA, has a degree in Social Work and Masters in Social Policy and Administration.

Village Managers are embracing professional development as well. This VILLAGE SUMMIT we are delivering 1,000 PD Point awards to 48 DCMI Members – a great achievement when it takes up to three years of study to achieve, and two awards for 2,000 PD points are being made. (Below is the Perth award recipients).

The Retirement Living Code of Conduct requires village staff to engage in training/professional development each year; the DCM Institute delivers the required content.

Thanks to all the CEOs who are giving their time to the VILLAGE SUMMIT. Village Managers are appreciative and inspired by the honest and open conversations.
