Akoya Greenwich Over 55s Community Apartment Project and Curtin Heritage Living win UDIA National Awards

2 min read

The first “young seniors” development by Alceon, founded by Trevor Loewensohn, Phil Green, who created Babcock & Brown Communities, and Morris Symonds, has firmly put retirement villages in the shade.

The strata development built by Stevens Construction and designed by Marchese Partners I Life 3A, has won the Urban Development Institute of Australia’s National Awards for Excellence 2025: Apartments – Mid Rise after its NSW title in 2024.

Former NSW Premier Nick Greiner, now aged 77, paid $6.25 million for an apartment in Akoya and its website lists the last two of the 39 apartments for sale: The Botanica Residence and north-facing The Sails Penthouse, both three-bedroom, two-bathroom, two-car space with a multi-purpose studio. The median age of residents is 75.

“Akoya is certainly the most unique property I’ve had the pleasure of selling in my 30 years in real estate on the North Shore,” said Ray White Director Tim Abbott in July last year.

The developer went for quality over quantity. There are concierge services, private and exclusive rooftop retreat, infinity edge rooftop pool, Club Lounge including bar, library & fireplace, on-site cafe/restaurant, wine cellar with private wine storage, private theatre, golf driving range simulator, private dining with finishing kitchen perfect for private events, Wellness Consulting Centre, Sub Zero & Wolf Appliances, full height Sub-Zero wine fridge, fireplaces in all apartments, elevated aspect with 270-degree views and most apartments enjoy harbour and city views.

Curtin Heritage Living won the Seniors Living National Award for the redevelopment by Hames Sharley of its site in the affluent suburb of Cottesloe, 11km west southwest of Peth’s CBD. The redevelopment, the largest development to have occurred in the suburb, included a mix of deluxe retirement residences and eight high-care suites.

The national award follows Curtin Heritage Living’s success at the 2024 UDIAWA state awards in the same category, along with the Russel Perry Award for best overall development.

“The project’s success is the result of work by many dedicated people – from planning, development, construction and now in the delivery of services to our clients. We believe we have created beautiful spaces where our clients, their loved ones and our broader community can interact,” Managing Director David Cox said.
