BlueCare’s Sunrise Beach Village approved in 2011 cannot be stopped: Noosa Council

Concerted protests by environmentalists will not stop the integrated development by UnitingCare Queensland’s BlueCare at Sunrise Beach, Noosa, on the Sunshine Coast.

BlueCare Sunrise Beach Village will be home to a 102-bed two-storey aged care facility and 122 independent living units ranging between one-, two- and three-bedrooms, which will be operated by village operator Keyton.

Since BlueCare announced the plan in 2008, approved in 2011, it has been met with protests concerned at the destruction of the habitat.

Noosa Council has issued a statement after the latest protests as the builders are about to move in.

“The approval for this development is lawful and cannot be changed by council, unless requested by the applicant,” it states. Read the statement in full.

BlueCare said it had approval from Noosa Council and State and Commonwealth governments to start construction of the retirement village.

In a letter distributed to resident surrounding the development, BlueCare said work on the site was scheduled to begin on or after 13 June.

“This forms part of the preliminary works of the Sunrise Beach Village by BlueCare precinct, combining aged care (currently under construction) and retirement living. The works include site establishment, vegetation clearing and fauna management, salvage and translocation of Grasstrees, live seed soil and mulch translocation to and for the rehabilitation of a section of land located within the Nature Reserve at 100 Eenie Creek Rd, Noosa Heads,“ the statement read.
