Fifth Seasons retirement village converts to a rental village for over-55s

Recognising that its care focused one-bedroom retirement village units are not in demand, the QLD private operator is turning five of its eight locations into seniors’ rental communities.

Chief Executive Officer Jodie Gaske told The Weekly SOURCE the decision to change to a mainly rental community model, with a minimum six-month lease, operating under Queensland Government's Rental Tenancies Authority, has resulted in “high demand”.

“It’s a great accommodation option for many people wanting a one-bedroom apartment in a gated community, with other like-minded residents,” she said.

Jodie joined Seasons as CEO just over two years ago with the brief to review its private aged care routes and home care services.

In 2013 Seasons declared its strategy to be a leader in private aged care with Nick Loudon then the CEO.

Seasons’ retirement villages in Bribie Island, Eastern Heights, Kallangur, and Redbank Plains have already turned into rental communities and it has told residents in its Caloundra retirement village it will become a rental village. It has 120 one-bedroom units.

“Seasons Caloundra currently has 14 apartments occupied under a retirement village lease. All other residents are renters under the Residential Tenancies Authority legislation. Seasons is working with our residents with complete transparency,” Jodie said.

“Residents at Seasons Caloundra have several options to consider, which include relocating to another Seasons retirement village or remaining as a renter at Seasons Caloundra.”

If residents require 24/7 clinical care, they can also consider relocating to Seasons’ residential aged care facility, called Care Suites, in its 30-bed RAC co-located at Seasons Mango Hill retirement village.

“Seasons is also providing financial support with relocation costs, aged care placement and financial consultants should residents wish,” Jodie said.

Seasons is owned by Philip Usher Constructions, a major home developer in Queensland. Owner Phil (pictured) was said in 2022 to be one of Australia’s wealthiest people with a fortune of $624 million.
