Federal Financial Services Minister Stephen Jones said he would put tougher regulations on retirement living operators on the agenda of state and territory consumer ministers in December.
"There clearly needs to be a significant improvement in the conduct of retirement village operators," he told the ABC, which has broadcast 14 and 17 minute accounts of allegations by residents and families of residents against the retirement sector on 7.30.
"We will consider the best pathway forward in consultation with the states. We want all Australians to retire with dignity."
State and territories regulate retirement villages and new Retirement Villages Acts have been implemented in every state and territory bar South Australia and Victoria in recent times.
