Tweed Shire Council to fight proposed $2.2M holiday park in NSW Land and Environment Court

The plan for 112 long-term residential sites at Pottsville in the NSW Northern Rivers was rejected on nine issues by the Council last Thursday.

Design Build Instruct had proposed that the development would be a caravan park but council was told it is unclear how many sites are intended to be occupied by caravans and how many are intended to be occupied by manufactured homes, moveable dwellings or the like.

“We’ve got a proposal before us for 112 sites in a site that contains a lot of pretty precious wetland vegetation, it is a flood-prone site and a bushfire-prone site as well,” Mayor Chris Cherry said.

‘It was also raised that it may be a prohibited land use. It is not in the public interest. We have 320 submissions on this item and 319 are objecting to it.”

“I think we really need to stand firm on this and defend it in the Land and Environment Court.”

Pottsville, which had a population of 7,238 in the 2021 Census, is home to TriCare Hastings Point Retirement Community and Bupa Aged Care Pottsville Beach.

The SOURCE: The nine issues, including the ecological value of the site, seem genuine and the DA inappropriate.
