DCM Group’s tour of innovative land lease communities and retirement villages in Port Stephens and Newcastle

The sight of residents enjoying themselves is testament to the endeavours of the small number of staff making it possible every day.

DCM Group’s workforce boarded a mini bus at its Balmain East offices and were met and welcomed at:

Palm Lake Resort Fern Bay: Community Manager and Caretaker Ron Payne told us how its meal voucher scheme meant over 150 homeowners would be there for dinner. Also its oldest residents were a couple, aged 98 and 96.

Ingenia Lifestyle Latitude One: Communications Manager Dionne Charters showed us the “pinnacle of land lease living” and pointed to the 171-home expansion taking place at the 270-home luxury lifestyle estate.

Sunrise, Hometown Australia: Community Manager Leisel Dawson was celebrating a house sale and revealed a community to be proud of with a vegetable garden, complete with beehive, and told how the residents hold their own concerts.

Uniting Salamander Bay: Village Manager Janelle Norton showed us around a Shared Care facility with a retirement village, affordable rental homes, a community centre where care was provided for residents and the wider community.

Aveo Shortland Waters: Sales Manager Jane Clack, just four weeks into her role, proved a consummate performer, showing the continued development of the retirement village. The over/unders apartments, popular in Queensland, were exhibited. Three properties were under offer.

Oak Tree Retirement Villages Broadmeadow: It was an open day and there was keen interest in the one- and two-bedroom apartments. Business Manager Jacki Vincent told us a social committee was being formed and about the plans for the area.

Arcare Warners Bay: Client Services Manager Sharon Wells was an impressive guide as she told us about the “unprecedented interest” for this luxurious aged care home opened in May. Only 19 of the 106 suites remain available. The largest suites are being sold for up to 1.2 million.

RetireAustralia Glengara Care: Sales Consultant Cassie Webber showed the DCM Group its “genuine alternative to aged care” and we told it accepted everyone bar those who exhibited aggression and were basically, uncontrollable. It was an insight into what can be achieved with a properly designed initiative.

Thank you to everyone for making our visits so enjoyable and instructive.
