After 10-years plus fight, Edward River Village in Deniliquin, NSW Riverina, is a reality

The first two of six independent living villas in Stage 1 at the Edward River Council ratepayer-funded development are for sale for the first seniors' facility in the town with a population of almost 8000 people.

It has been an uphill battle for many residents and the decision by the council to build an over 65s facility has been vindicated judging by a soft opening last weekend.

12 groups of people walked through the two-bedroom villas and there were three private viewings and contracts have been asked for. The villas are from $475,000.

Mayor Peta Betts said the development to date was under budget. Stage 1 was costed at $4.43 million, with $1 million from the former Coalition Federal Government’s Economic Development Project.

The remaining four villas in Stage 1 are expected to be completed and available by April.

Further stages of construction at the village, 32 villas with communal spaces over 2.2ha, will begin when all six units are under contract.
