One of Western Australia's largest Not For Profit providers of care and services will, subject to due diligence, become the owner of the loss-making retirement village owned and operated by the council since 1986.
“Our long-term plan is to establish an integrated care community that enables older people to lead a fulfilling life as they progress through their ageing journey in the community they love,” Amana Living CEO Stephanie Buckland said in a media release.
Collier Park Village in Como, which has 169 units, a community centre and a former 40-bed aged care hostel which closed in 2014, recorded an operating loss of $406,721 in the 2021-22 financial year, and a loss of $329,299 in 2020-21.
A council report said the village had been operating at a significant financial loss due to its age and operating model and warned its operating losses were likely to continue to grow as its maintenance and renewal requirements grew.
Amana, which owns and operates 16 lifestyle villages and retirement villages, was preferred over bids by Bethanie Group and Air Force Association (WA Div) RAAFA.
