Building of Summerset's third continuum of care retirement village in Victoria to begin early 2025

One of New Zealand’s largest retirement and aged care operators, which last Thursday announced it had bought four new land sites, has turned the sod on its third Victorian site.

Summerset’s planned new retirement village was approved as part of The Briody Drive Development Plan in mid-2024 and is planned to include assisted living and aged care on site.  

Summerset purchased the land in 2020 and received approval from Surf Coast Council for the Development Plan of its new village in April this year, allowing for up to 290 independent and assisted retirement units and 80 residential aged care beds.

Our growth strategy in Australia is supported by bringing our successful integrated village model to retiring Australians, with our key point of difference being our continuum of care offering,” said Stewart Scott, Chief Operating Officer Australia. 

Residents moved into Summerset's first village in Cranbourne North, 39km southeast of Melbourne's CBD, in March this year. It has also started work on its second village in Chirnside Park, 38km northeast of Melbourne’s CBD, and the company’s sites in Oakleigh South, 17km south-east of the State's capital city, and Craigieburn, 25km north of Melbourne's CBD, have received building consent.
