The continuum of care operator, which is working on 17 village sites in New Zealand and two in Australia, is going to see the first residents move into its biggest retirement village St Johns in the Auckland suburb this month.
The 2.6ha site has approximately 36,500msq Gross Floor Area (excluding the basement), including the basement it's 45,000msq. It equals Summerset's third largest village in unit numbers with 340 homes (largest is 383 units) comprising independent one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments (225), villas (11), serviced apartments (55) care suites (30), and Memory Care suites (19).
Pricing of independent living apartments range from NZ$975,000 for a one-bedroom, NZ$1.35 million for a two-bedroom through to NZ$6 million for premium apartments. Its care offering (care suites, serviced apartments, memory care apartments which are all sold under Occupation Right Agreements) range from NZ$375,000 to NZ$1.575 million which includes some two-bedroom care apartments.
There will be seven multi-level buildings when completed, the first four buildings in the first stage release will comprise 60% of the village’s homes, with a third of these already sold or under contract with circa NZ$90 million in sales (across care and independent homes). The village also has an indoor swimming pool and spa, resident bar, bistro, café, movie theatre, bowling and croquet green, exercise facilities, resident concierge and chauffeur booking service.
Summerset St Johns is a very different build to normal, with the operator completing and opening hundreds of homes in one go rather than the staged approach taken on broadacre sites.
4000 people applied for approximately 80 staff roles, with more than 250 interviews held. For the first time Summerset has recruited a Resident Experience Manager, Executive Chef and a Wellbeing Coordinator who will host in-person proactive health clinics.
