Opal HealthCare has turned the first sod on Croydon Grove Care Community, the operator's new $157 million, four-storey, 121-bed aged care home in Croydon, a suburb of Melbourne, 30km from the CBD.

The purpose-built care community will be co-located within the Mingarra Retirement Living community, which is operated by Aveo.

The official sod-turning ceremony was attended by Maroondah City Council Deputy Mayor Paul MacDonald.

"The design and amenities of the new Croydon Grove Care Community will go a long way towards helping residents to live their best life," the Deputy Mayor said.

Opal HealthCare acquired Croydon Grove Care Community in 2021. When the new building is complete, which is expected to be in late 2025, residents of the existing Croydon Grove Care Community will move into the new building. The care community will also include a 'memory care neighbourhood' to support people living with dementia, featuring the latest dementia care design principles, memory supports, activated spaces, and sensory gardens.

In March 2024, Opal HealthCare, which is jointly owned by investment manager AMP Capital and Singaporean investment company G. K. Goh Holdings, acquired Bluecross' 31 aged care homes in Victoria. Opal HealthCare is the only aged care provider in Australia with more than 100 homes.
