Land lease pioneer John Wood partners with aged care provider

2 min read

The Founder of National Lifestyle Villages, which was sold to GIC and Tasman Capital Partners in 2018, when he became Director of Business Development at the new entity Serenitas, has launched his fifth land lease community under his new brand Providence.

Wattle Grove Lifestyle Resort, in the suburb of the same name, 13km east of Perth’s CBD, has yet to be approved but already eight or nine people have committed to move in at the first stage at the first meeting with interested clients.

“They won’t get to move in for about 18 to 24 months? I've got 12 months to get my approval in place. And then I've got to do the civil and home construction. So realistically, it's going to be two years,” John said.

“It's going to be between 190 and 220 homes, depending on our development approval. It's 24 hectares and we're only developing half of it, so there's lots of open space, lots of trees. There's a beautiful creek that goes through the middle of it.

“It's going to have more contemporary houses than in my previous resorts because they can be built on site. We're partnering with one of the aged care providers, and they're doing their own development right next door to us with a 120-bed aged care facility.

“It's a value add for the people that live at Wattle Grove Lifestyle Resort. We're talking about partnering with this aged care group so that it's part of our development approval process going forward.”

Palm Lake Group is the only land lease operator to have co-located Palm Lake Care homes. They are at seven Palm Lake Resorts and two land lease communities have been allocated for future aged care development:

John, and his partners John Green, James Turnbull and Brad Denison founded Providence in 2020. It has just opened the clubhouse at its first venture Piara Waters Lifestyle Resort, on 10ha in the southeastern suburb of Perth. The other three lifestyle resorts for over 50s Haynes (Stage 1 selling), Henley Brook (Stage 2A selling) and Mandurah (Stage 2 selling) have opened.
