We at times can forget that shared aged care rooms (are they ‘wards’) still can be frequently found across the country, including in metro Sydney.
The Queensland Not For Profit provider has just opened it’s new facilities for residents at its Immanuel Gardens Aged Care home in Buderim, on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, nearly 90km from Brisbane.
The $2.8 million redevelopment includes 20 new resident rooms, a new kitchen and dining area. It forms stage one of a $7.8 million renovation project at the 25-acre site.
Stages two to four will start later this year and are expected to cost $5 million.
“The renovation allowed Lutheran Services to continue to adapt to the needs of its community, moving away from shared rooms and living spaces to provide dedicated rooms and suites for our residents to call their own,” Lutheran Services regional manager Stephanie Wilson told the Sunshine Coast News.
“The renovation was designed to provide residents with a warm, home-like environment, offering them everything they need during their later stages of life.
The SOURCE: A general rule of thumb is aged care homes must be refurbished every eight to 12 years to remain modern.
