Residents have been moving into their new home at Fresh Hope Communities' Green Hills Residential Care Service, in Maitland, NSW, about 30km northwest of Newcastle's CBD.
Construction on the new home began in early 2022, and since late January residents have begun to move in.
The redeveloped 158-bed home, designed by Calderflower Architecture, has been built in a 'pinwheel' design, with four separate wings each accommodating groups of residents within 15 to 16-resident households.
Each household has its own lounge, dining area, kitchen and servery, available to every resident.
“We’re so pleased to finally be at this point—it’s been a long-time coming! All of our residents, their relatives and representatives had a chance to visit the new building a few weeks ago, and the feedback has been incredible, but now we are in and it’s time to make the place feel like home," said Residential Services Manager at Green Hills, Shannon Fitzgerald.
Once residents and staff have settled in, an opening ceremony will be held to mark the occasion.
Fresh Hope Communities operates six residential aged care homes in NSW, as well as retirement villages, affordable housing, and conference accommodation, and is part of Churches of Christ in NSW and the ACT.
