Site of former orphanage chapel in Brisbane proposed to be a huge new retirement village

Urban planners Mecone has lodged a development application with Brisbane City Council to start the building of a huge retirement village in Nundah, 8.9km north-northeast of Brisbane’s CBD.

Designed by retirement village specialists O’Neill Architecture, the proposal seeks 76 two- or three-bedroom detached and attached retirement units over four storeys as part of the first stage of a new retirement facility.

The development will consist of two distinct building components over a portion of the large vacant site, formerly Tufnell Home Orphanage Chapel, providing interconnected pedestrian pathways and transport links to ensure easy access and mobility for residents.

Communal amenities in Stage 1 include a swimming pool, sun lounge area, pavilion and lawn space.
