Thompson Health Care bid to demolish aged care home on Sydney's Northern Beaches and rebuild it twice the size

Thompson Health Care, which owns and operates 16 aged care homes on the NSW East Coast, wants to spend $23 million to demolish the existing Mona Vale House facility, 28km north of Sydney's CBD, and replace it with a new two-storey structure.

Two neighbouring houses owned by the company, founded by Doug Thompson AM, would also be bulldozed to make way for the new facility, state a development application lodged with Northern Beaches Council.

Mona Vale House would double in size, from 63 beds to 118 beds, if the plans were approved.

In 2021, Northern Beaches Council approved plans to demolish the existing buildings and build a new aged care home. The following year, modifications to the DA that removed the requirement to build a path to an adjacent bus stop were approved.

The amended DA lodged in July includes changes to the proposed home's perimeter.
