Uniting NSW.ACT lodges new plans for a second retirement village in Shellharbour, south of Sydney

1 min read

The seniors’ community will be built on a vacant parcel of land the Not For Profit owns in Shellharbour City Centre, 100km south of Sydney’s CBD.

As part of Stage 1 planning, Uniting NSW.ACT has submitted two applications to Shellharbour City Council; a Modification Application and a Development Application to construct 152 one-, two- and three-bedroom retirement and independent living apartments, community facilities and landscaped communal spaces. The site will be delivered in four stages.

Included in Stage 1 of the project, 10% of the purposefully designed independent living apartments will be made available as affordable housing for seniors.

“Our vision for this project is to create a modern village that fosters social connection amongst an increasing ageing population – a welcoming community where companionship is encouraged, without compromising residents’ privacy,” said Simon Furness, Director of Property and Housing at Uniting.

If the applications are approved, the Wattle Road development is proposed to be constructed in four stages, with stage one construction anticipated to start in late 2025/early 2026 for an early Autumn 2028 completion.
