Regis Aged Care and Opal HealthCare announce seven new builds after aged care reforms unveiled

Regis Aged Care has given the go-ahead to three aged care developments that have been on hold for years, only a week after the Government announced its package of reforms for a more financially sustainable sector.

In FY25, Regis Aged Care will proceed with new builds in:

  • Toowong, 4km southwest of the Brisbane CBD,
  • Belrose, 19km north of the Sydney CBD, and
  • Carlingford, 24km southwest of the Sydney CBD.

The three projects will create up to 323 new aged care beds.

“After many years of chronic underfunding with a significant portion of the sector operating at a loss, we are now expecting more predictable and sustainable funding to invest in high-quality services and aged care homes that Australians expect," said Regis Healthcare Managing Director and CEO, Dr Linda Mellors.

In Camberwell, 10km east of the Melbourne CBD, Regis Aged Care also has a 113-bed facility under development and expected to open in November. The four-level home will include a 14-bed dementia care unit, nine penthouse apartments, and basement parking.

From 2 December 2024, Regis Aged Care will operate 68 aged care homes, as two newly acquired homes, announced last week, come into the fold: Ti Tree Operations' Village Glen Mornington and Village Glen Capel Sound, both on the Mornington Peninsula, southwest of Melbourne. When the acquisitions and new builds are complete, Regis Aged Care will have gained nearly 700 beds.

Opal HealthCare CEO Rachel Argaman has told The SOURCE, with confirmation of the aged care reforms, Australia's largest private residential aged care provider plans to go ahead with developments at Narwee and St Ives in Sydney, NSW, and Brighton and Caulfield in Melbourne, Victoria.
