The former Tilligerry Plaza at Tanilba Bay, a suburb of the Port Stephens local government area, north of Sydney, has been sitting vacant for 13 years and is an eyesore in the centre of the bayside town.
Now Caswell Living Management, which has an existing seniors living facility Cameron Glen, at Cameron Park, a suburb of Lake Macquarie, is the latest to lodge plans with Port Stephens Council to build a $10 million “high-quality” seniors housing development on the site.
There will be 51 independent living units and nursing accommodation, 48 car parking spaces, a communal club house and open green spaces.
Most of the units will be two-bedroom, with the development set to be built in two stages - the first to construct 30 units.
“According to the 2016 census, nearly 50% of the population in Tanilba Bay is over the age of 55 years,” said Simon Livingstone, director at Caswell Living Management.
“There has already been strong local interest from current residents of the area, who want to remain close to family and friends and existing networks.”
