It was 15 April 2013 when Lane Cove Council on Sydney’s Lower North Shore resolved to support a planning proposal for 266 Longueville Road to enable the rezoning of land from Public Recreation to High-Density Residential and reclassify the land from community to operational land.
On 8 May 2017, NSW Planning received an application for a Site Compatibility Statement (SCC) prepared by GSA on behalf of Australian Unity for 266 Longueville Road. The SCC was for an $81.3 million 93 self-contained dwellings for seniors, support facilities for residents, a 70-bed residential aged care facility and a basement car parking for 148 vehicles. The site used to be a bowling green and also Lane Cove Cultural and Music Centre, which was demolished.
Lane Cove Council had entered into a 99-year lease with Australian Unity Limited in relation to the land. The proposal has been vehemently opposed by local residents and Australian Unity’s architects GSA has been forced to amend its application.
On 1 September (tomorrow), NSW Planning North will decide whether to allow Australian Unity’s proposal to build 90 independent living units/self-contained dwellings, a 70-bed residential aged care facility, with basement car parking for 137 vehicles, and a new public park on 266 Longueville Road.
