Federal Government seven months behind reimbursing aged care providers for COVID-19 expenses

In this week’s SATURDAY, we reveal that the Department of Health and Aged Care is seven months behind in reimbursing aged care providers for the cost of equipment used to combat COVID outbreaks.

The Department is only now processing claims “submitted in mid-2022”.

“As at 30 January 2023, total funding of $161.8 million has been paid across 1,301 applications to 367 individual aged care providers,” the Department told SATURDAY.

“A further $25.9 million has been approved across 535 applications, with these applications currently being processed.

“Due to significant volumes of incoming applications and their complexity, applications take considerable time to assess.”
