Get behind Aged Care Taskforce recommendations in full or risk reforms: ACCPA

Aged care providers must back the full suite of Aged Care Taskforce recommendations or risk derailing reforms, says Tom Symondson, CEO of Aged and Community Care Providers Association (ACCPA).

“The findings of the Aged Care Taskforce reflect the views of unions, economists, consumers and aged care experts and are fully supported by aged care providers," Tom told The SOURCE

“We are on the cusp of being able to build an aged care sector that we can be proud of.

“With reform of this magnitude, it’s common for governments of all persuasions to call for bipartisan support, but on this occasion, we need the support of all corners of parliament, and the Australian people.

“Aged care will affect every Australian, now or in the future, so we all need to seize the moment to get the right result."

The Aged Care Taskforce handed its report, which contained 23 recommendations, to the Government more than six months ago.

The sector was disappointed when the Government's response to the recommendations was not included in the May 2024-25 Federal Budget, and has been imploring the Government to respond ever since.

Our sources within the Government say discussions with the Opposition are ongoing. But the timing of the Government's response to the Taskforce's recommendations still remains unknown.
