NT Govt wants aged care provider and Federal support for Palmerston facility

1 min read

The Northern Territory Government has allocated $12 million to build a new 120-bed aged care facility in Palmerston, 20km south east of the Darwin CBD, and is seeking investors.

“The Territory Labor Government is laying the groundwork to attract investment for a new aged care facility in Palmerston, with a $10 million investment to service land in Palmerston Regional Health Precinct and $2 million for the design of the facility,” Minister for Health Selena Uibo told The SOURCE.

The Government is seeking Federal Government support for the project.

“We are currently in negotiations with the Australian Government to invest in the construction of the aged-care facility,” the Minister said.

The aged care home is being planned in the hope it will reduce demand on hospital emergency departments, which are under pressure. Royal Darwin Hospital recorded ‘code yellows’ - the signal for internal emergency - eight times in the last 12 months due to increased presentations.
