The Council is looking into all avenues in its attempts to try and resolve issues that have thrown the future of the 40-bed aged care home in Murchison, 161km north of Melbourne, into doubt.

As we reported here, the Department of Health had allocated at least $564,000 since November 2019 – around $56,000 a month – to keep open the doors of the aged care home, despite the facility closing its doors in February 2020.

Now Greater Shepparton Mayor Kim O’Keeffe has told The Riverine Herald council is ‘leaving no stone unturned’ in its attempts to keep the aged care home afloat, lodging an expression of interest to purchase.

The proposal would see Council purchase the property with the existing Government funding before refurbishing the home and leasing it to a new operator.

Cr O’Keefe said council still had some work to do on the proposal and no purchase of Murchison Community Care had been confirmed yet.

The appointed liquidators, SV Partners, will handle the future sale of the property.
