Just 119 of Australia’s 1,600 home care providers have received funding under the Federal Government’s Aged Care Act Transition Support 2024–25 grant program, according to data published on GrantConnect.
The grant, announced in November 2024, was designed to help home care and Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) providers upgrade their information technology systems ahead of the rollout of the new Aged Care Act on 1 July.
However, with the funding set at $10,000, it appears that less than 7% of eligible providers have applied – sparking criticism from sector leaders.
Luke Benson, Principal Consultant at Blue Bike Solutions, labelled the process "incredibly unfair and frustrating," saying many providers didn’t apply because the support offered was insufficient.

“If the amount had been reasonable – let’s say $50k – there still could have been another 200+ providers who received support,” he posted on social media. “Judging by the results, this now looks like a deeply cynical exercise.”
Luke is calling for a second round of grants, warning that many providers did not or could not budget appropriately for Phase 1 of the legislative reforms.
