Bega Valley Shire Council latest to stop providing home care

1 min read

Bega Valley Shire Council, on the New South Wales Far South Coast, has announced it will quit home care services in four months' time.

A 2023 review of the Council's families, ageing and disability services prompted the Council to conclude the services would be more efficiently and effectively delivered by other providers.

“While council provides a high level of service, the provider market has changed significantly since we became a families, ageing and disability services provider, and there are now multiple providers of ageing and disability services located in the shire,” said the council’s Director Community, Environment and Planning, Emily Harrison.

“We will work with the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care to assist in the transition for clients in the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) by 30 November 2024."

In the last three years, more than 80 local Councils have made the decision to quit home care ahead of 2027 reforms in which the CHSP, the low-care Government-funded program that currently delivers services to more than 800,000 older Australians in the community, will merge into Support at Home.
