Bolton Clarke’s new report backs the healthy amenities at retirement living villages and land lease communities

2 min read

Bolton Clarke’s inaugural Ageing Well Report shows the ethos espoused by the ageing sector is what people want as they age.

Staying active becomes the priority of people when they reach the age of 45-55 and remains with them even when 75+.

The Ageing Well Report, which surveyed over 2000 people, also shows that as people age the need for health services becomes more important.

This illustrates the business approach taken by Bolton Clarke, which bought Allity in December 2021 and purchased Acacia Living Group in November 2021, to be among only 2% of aged care providers offering a full continuum of care from at home support to retirement living and residential aged care.

Almost half of all respondents saw loneliness as the most important mental health priority, topping the list in every age group and in increasing numbers the older the cohort.

Only 3% of respondents said they intend to sell the family home as their main way to fund their retirement. Around half (47%) of all respondents said superannuation was their top source of funding as they age, compared with 28% who said the Age Pension would be their main source of retirement funding.

“This Ageing Well Report adds important context to the conversation around population ageing because it helps us understand what Australians think are the top ingredients to ageing well, and how that fits with what Australian and international health research is showing,” Bolton Clarke Chief Operating Officer for At Home Support, Deidre McGill, said.

The SOURCE: With Australia’s population of over 65s forecast to more than double by 2057, the findings of the Bolton Clarke research reveal how older people feel about ageing and aged care services. These lessons are important for operators if the sector is to deliver aged care services that meet older people’s needs.
