Legislation bringing the new role of Inspector-General into effect was passed on 8 August 2023.
Creating the role of Inspector-General, whose function is to review the Government’s administration and regulation of the aged care system, was a key recommendation of the Royal Commission.
The Inspector-General will have the power to investigate systemic issues across the aged care system, including complaints management processes, and will report its findings and recommendations to Government, Parliament, and the public.
The Inspector-General will also report on the Government’s implementation of the Royal Commission’s recommendations.
You can read the legislation here.
