Older people want to stay living in the family home for as long as possible, according to research conducted by Victorian Not For Profit aged care provider Benetas, conducted as part of a campaign launched this week to combat the belief that home care is a disruption to daily routines.
The research, which involved internal Benetas customer research as well as market statistics from 2023, also found that older people are reluctant to seek home care support.
More than 90% of Benetas' clients said receiving services at home allowed them to continue living their life in familiar surroundings. 46% of those who rejected home care services, said they did so because they were concerned about losing independence.
34% who rejected home care services said they were uncomfortable having strangers in their home.
Benetas' 'Long Live Home' campaign, developed with creative agency Silver Lining, highlights how people aged 65 and older can receive support at home and continue doing what they love because Home Care services are tailored to every individual's particular needs.
The campaign features an older women, Jeanne, and a beloved armchair. In the background, Benetas Home Care workers carry out tasks around the home in double time, allowing Jeanne to continue with the activities she enjoys.
“The research clearly highlights that staying at home means a lot to older Victorians, it’s our job to do whatever we can to support them,” said Benetas General Manager Community Health and Care Helen Kemp.
