35 new homes for people over 50 in Bendigo as Anglicare Australia want 15,000 social houses built annually

The $16.6 million Victorian Government project, in partnership with Not For Profit Wintringham Housing, is complete with successful applicants to move in this month.

The Golden Square development, on the site of the former Welcome Stranger Motel, has been designed with residents' livability needs at the forefront, with each unit featuring a private outdoor space and wheelchair accessibility throughout all the homes, and across the entire site. It is in proximity to public transport, local shops, allied health services, and parks.

In the City of Greater Bendigo alone, more than $155 million has been invested through the State Government’s Big Housing Build and other social housing programs to build more than 370 new social and affordable homes. More than 10,100 homes are underway or complete as part of the Government’s $6.3 billion investment into social housing, with nearly 5,500 households moving in or moved into brand new homes.

Anglicare Australia recommends in its pre Federal Budget plan an investment in a long-term social homebuilding program to deliver 25,000 new social and affordable homes each year for the next two decades, with a direct, additional investment of $50 billion in social housing over the coming decade to 2033-34.
