The registered charity, which provides subsidised accommodation and services to seniors in need, has been chosen as the preferred operator to develop and operate a new 90-dwelling community housing development in Mount Lawley, an inner northern suburb of Perth.
The site was identified through the WA Government's Housing Diversity Pipeline, the WA Goverment said in a statement. Bethanie Housing already manages more than 500 community housing properties for West Australians in Perth and the South West.
The proposed three-storey 11,000sqm development will deliver 90 homes for people aged over 55 with a development application expected to be lodged in early 2025 by the operator.
As of 29 February, 2024, the public housing waitlist in Western Australia had 19,976 applications, representing 35,660 people. The average wait time for social housing in the state is around three years.
