In an exceptional show of commitment, RSL LifeCare, in partnership with RSL NSW and the generosity of local sub-branches, has set new records in supporting veterans and their families, including the delivery of health, housing, employment, financial and wellbeing assistance, as well as DVA claims and advocacy services.
Each year, RSL sub-Branches across NSW donate funds to RSL LifeCare through the Veteran Services Fund (VSF), established by RSL NSW. These funds, presented at the Annual RSL NSW Congress, help power the holistic services RSL LifeCare provides to veterans and their loved ones.
Over the 2021-2023 financial years, these essential services have been made possible thanks to generous funding from several sources:
- RSL NSW sub-Branches: $8.6 million
- RSL LifeCare: $8.8 million
- Government support: $4.5 million from the NSW and Commonwealth Governments
In the past financial year alone, the key achievements of RSL LifeCare Veteran Services have included:
- Financial assistance: over $359,392 distributed across 350 cases, a 26% increase from the previous year.
- Housing and Homelessness support: provided housing support to more than 142 veterans in need.
- DVA claims: assisted more than 770 veterans in lodging a total of 3,390 DVA claims.
- Employment support: offered employment services to 58 veterans and their partners.
- Veterans Review Board Appeals: lodged 201 new appeals, completed 321 mediations, and represented veterans at 30 full hearings.
- Spur Ranch Equine Program: RSL LifeCare’s unique initiative designed by veterans for veterans, focusing on wellbeing and recovery through interaction with horses, has offered 19 courses and musters for over 100 veterans, representing a 20% increase.
- Safe shelter and accommodation: Provided over 4,900 nights of safe shelter and accommodation for veterans experiencing homelessness.
“Our veterans have made extraordinary sacrifices in service to our nation, and it is our duty to ensure they receive the care and support they need upon their return,” RSL LifeCare CEO Janet Muir said.
“I am deeply grateful for all those in the RSL LifeCare community who have helped deliver support to our veteran community and very thankful for the RSL NSW sub-Branches who donated $3.2 million to the VSF in the 2023 financial year to help us continue these vital services.
