Closed Palm Lake Resort retirement village leased to QLD Govt for homeless relief

The Elliot family has leased its former Redlands Bay retirement village, 35km southeast of Brisbane, to help the Queensland Government provide a roof and care for the homeless.

Palm Lake Resort Redlands Bay has been leased for two years, with an option for a one-year extension. It has been converted into 26 studio units, plus two three-bedroom houses.

Families, seniors and young people have begun moving into the former retirement village.

Dan Aitchison, CEO of Palm Lake Care, said the provider still had long-term plans to redevelop the site.

Redland Bay opened in 1990 and the residents’ leases ended on September last year, after the closure was announced in April 2022.
