The Reverend Alistair Christie, who is credited for assisting the development of positive changes for residents in today’s retirement living sector, has died at the age of 86.
Alistair was the president of the Australian Retirement Village Residents Association and the ACT Retirement Village Residents Association for many years.
M-L MacDonald, President of the Retirement Living Council, said Alistair dedicated his life to family, church and community.
“Alistair was a dedicated and caring advocate for residents, and a constructive contributor, who worked with operators to make the industry better,” she said.
“He played a crucial role in helping to establish the Retirement Living Code of Conduct, and served as the inaugural resident representative on the Code Review Panel.
“In every sense of the word, Alistair was a true gentleman.
“On behalf of the industry, I extend my condolences to Alistair’s children and extended family.”
Reverend Christie was twice chair of the Uniting Church’s Canberra Region Presbytery (1989–82, 2012), Moderator of the NSW.ACT Synod (2002–04) and President of the ACT Council of Churches (2016–19).
A Service of Celebration for Alistair’s life was held at Wesley Uniting Church in Forrest, ACT, on 22 June.
